The “Atak” tract in the Beregivu region is a unique place on the banks of the Borzhava River. If usually old large trees grow 50 or more meters apart, here they grow very close, forming majestic columns at a distance of 10-20 meters from each other, they do not compete with each other for moisture and food. The river brings enough sustenance.
The age of oaks and ash trees here reaches 150-350 years, their height is more than 40 meters, and the diameter of individual trees is 1.5 meters.
The head of our organization, Bohdan Prots, has been exploring the Atak Tract for many years and calls it the Valley of the Giants.
But the unique floodplain forest in the protected tract “Atak” was preserved only on a small patch of about 50 hectares – on the territory that was bequeathed. Already several hundred meters from the same giant trees, only stumps remained.
