For almost two years, more than 3,000 hectares of primeval forests of Transcarpathia have remained without the status of a primeval forest monument of nature. The state forest is unlucky with the location – the lands in the neighborhood either belong to businesses or the locals have their own plans for them.
These are primeval forests under the Runa and Borzhava valleys, the peaks and slopes of which are planned to be built into tourist facilities. The primeval forests under the Krasna forest do not interfere with construction, but they have already started to be cut down anyway.
The mentioned protected forests grow in the forests of the Mizhhirskyi, Mokryanskyi and Uzhgorod state forestry farms. They came under threat after deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council in February 2021 failed to vote on granting them the status of a primeval forest natural monument.
