A significant part of the primeval forest areas, which for several years were waiting for official documents about their high value, were cut down.
We have repeatedly written about the threat to the most valuable forests – virgin forests, quasi-virgin forests, and natural forests that have been identified by experts as virgin forest monuments, but have not yet received official protective status. Sometimes the documents for approval of the status of a primeval forest monument lie in government offices for years, and during this time the valuable forest, which is hundreds of years old, is turned into firewood. This is exactly what is happening now with primeval forests near the Svidovets high mountain massif.
Experts of the NGO “Danube-Carpathian Program” surveyed more than 570 hectares of virgin forests and quasi-virgin forests in the Yasinyan forest farm, in particular, on the territory of the Dovzhansky, Chornotysyansk and Stanislavsky forests of the SE “Yasinyansk LMG” out of 664 hectares, which are on the list of disputed areas in the Yasinyan forest management, which required a decision of the commission of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
