The publication is dedicated to the analysis of forest legislation of Ukraine and practice of forest sector management in aspects of biodiversity and natural ecosystems protection and the development of proposals to improve legislation, regulations and their practical implementation.
This publication analyzes the international requirements and recommendations with respect to biodiversity protection in general and forest biodiversity, including the requireof Forests in Europe, criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management, European practical recommendations for sustainable forest management. The requirements of International Conventions are analyzed in terms of their reflection in the legislation of Ukraine.
The description of new conceptual framework of environmental protection and contemporary forms of territorial protection of nature, formed and used in Europe is provided. The contemporary state of nature protection legislation of Ukraine in terms of its compliance to current conceptual framework and the legislative acts of the EU is analized.
The recommendation for improving the environmental legislation and specific laws and their harmonization with the EU legislation are provided. The basic terms, definitions and concepts, including the ones absent in the legislation of Ukraine with reference to the source are presented in the glossary.
It is intended for experts and management staff in forestry, nature protection as well as for biologists, ecologists, students of relevant subjects, national authorities and public sector activists.
