Any war causes significant destruction. It also harms the relationship between humans and the environment. In the first year, the conflict was mainly along roads. Later, it spread further into natural areas. As a result, we now see places like the burned Serebrianskyi Forest and many damaged protected areas. We are also uncertain if we will ever be able to restore the famous Askania-Nova of the occupied Ukrainian biosphere reserve.
The environmental consequences of the war and the difficulties of restoring and cleaning our land are discussed by Bohdan Prots, Assoc. Prof. Dr (SRS), CEO of the Danube-Carpathian Programme.
