What makes Svydovets Mountain Range unique?
On Svydovets Mountain Range you can see plants that are not found anywhere else in Ukraine.
A great connoisseur of plants of the Svydovets massif, scientist, candidate of biological sciences Roman Kish – associate professor of the Department of Botany of UzhNU, told us about the most interesting types of plants found on Svydovets.

Veronica aphylla outside Svydovets Mountain Range, it does not grow anywhere else in Ukraine.

Only here grows such a species as Gentiana nivalis. You can see it only on Mount Blyznytsia.

Salix alpina is found only under the peak of Blyznytsia mountain.

Saxifraga androsacea, a species of which literally a few individuals have been recorded on Svidovets, and is not found anywhere else outside of Svidovets.

A few years ago, a locality of such a rare plant for Ukraine as Sedum atratum was found here – it is the only place in Ukraine where this species was found.
Such a rich biodiversity is connected primarily with the great variety of natural conditions of Svydovets Mts, with the geological structure, with the presence of carbonate rock outcrops, because specific vegetation, confined to such substrates, always appears on the carbonate rock outcrops. There are few territories of carbonate-containing substrates in the Ukrainian Carpathians, so the corresponding flora and vegetation is quite rare.
“Svydovets, without a doubt, is extremely important for the preservation of biodiversity in Ukraine,” says Candidate of Biological Sciences Roman Kish.
But today there is a struggle to protect Svydovets Mts from being built into a mega-resort. And the results of this struggle depend on whether we will be able to save these unique plants.
Our military holds our skies. Only thanks to their sacrifice and incredible work can we live and work in independent Ukraine. We call on you to support the Ukrainian army in all possible ways in order to liberate our land from the occupiers by working together.
