They will cut down and control themselves. Help save forests from uncontrolled felling – write an appeal to the heads of factions about the inadmissibility of the adoption of draft law 9516.
Cut down more and significantly reduce ecological control over forest cutting – this is exactly the essence of the draft law, which is being lobbied by the State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine and SE “Forests of Ukraine”.
The draft law has a very nature-friendly title: “On Amendments to Some Legislative Acts of Ukraine Regarding Effective Forest Management Based on Forest Management Based on the Principles of Forestry Close to Nature, Adapted to Climate Change, and Biodiversity Conservation in Forests.”

In fact, the draft law stipulates:
- approval of estimated forest cutting not by the Ministry of Environment (as is happening now), but by the State Forestry Agency (that is, foresters should control themselves);
- excluding the powers of the Ministry of Environment to approve forest management materials;
- refuse to assess the impact on the environment of continuous sanitary felling;
- to raise the threshold for passing OVD for afforestation to 50-150 ha.
At least a 70 percentage of the draft law is clearly harmful. The remaining 30 percentages require significant refinement. There are no correspondences here regarding the principles of forestry close to nature, adapted to climate change and the preservation of biodiversity in forests. It is unfortunate that this draft law turned out to be another imitation of changes.
From such a manipulative approach, the real purpose of the draft law can be seen – to increase the speed of felling and reduce environmental and public control, which will sharply increase the corruption component.
The Verkhovna Rada is expected to vote on this draft law next week. We call on the deputies to reject the anti-forest draft law!
