In the Sambir and Stryi districts, it is proposed to create primeval forest natural monuments. A landscape reserve will also appear in Brodiv region

This was reported in the Lviv Regional Council, “Espresso. Zahid” reports.

The Commission on Ecology, Natural Resources and Recreation supported the initiative to create four primeval natural monuments of local importance “Sekul”, “Kychera Kropyvyna”, “Kiyovets”, “Bagnuvata” and agreed to the creation of a landscape reserve of local importance “Chebretsevi Gory”.

The primeval forest natural monument “Sekul” is located in the Stryi district. Beech and spruce multi-tiered plantations of different ages of natural origin, 110-180 years old, grow here. The area of the facility is 28.2 hectares.

Another primeval forest natural monument in the Stryi region is “Kychera Kropyvina”, where there is a beech multi-layered natural origin, spruce-beech and sycamore-beech multi-layer multi-layered natural origin, aged 117-170 years. The simpler territory occupies 50.3 hectares.

There is also a primeval forest natural monument “Kiyovets” in the Stryi district. Here, on an area of 36 hectares, there is a multi-layered beech plantation of natural origin, aged 124-160 years.

The fourth primeval forest natural monument “Bagnuvat” is located in the Sambir district. There is a beech plantation with an admixture of maple, sycamore and white fir, a multi-aged multi-tiered plantation of natural origin aged 97-165 years, and the area of the facility is 44.7 hectares.

Unique primeval forest sites, over 100 years old, were discovered during joint scientific research of primeval forests in the Lviv region by employees of the NGO “Danube-Carpathian Program” and the State Natural History Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. They have an important ecological value, since old trees are one of the main elements of the attractiveness of the landscape, a home for many species of birds, insects, mosses, and lichens. Preservation of these trees will ensure compliance with the proper environmental protection regime, maintenance of the ecological balance of the territory and increase of environmental awareness of the population.

In addition, the commission approved the initiative to create a landscape reserve of local importance “Chebretsevi Gory”, which is located within the massifs of the Brodivskyi DLHP “Galsillis”. As noted, the nature conservation facility is being created to preserve certain species of flora and fauna, which are included, in particular, in the protection lists of the Berne Convention and the Red Book of Ukraine. The total area of the nature reserve is 21 hectares.
